Hi Friends!
I am launching a Friday blog focused on all things skincare — products, routines and, most importantly, self-love.
Acne is something I have battled my whole life. Today, I love my skin and am proud of the work I put in both physically and mentally to get here. It was a loooong journey to become comfortable in my own skin though, and I still have my struggles.
Painful cystic zits, redness, and all-around embarrassment plagued me. I reached my breaking point a few years ago when I had gained 35 pounds, didn’t want to leave the house, and was living with constant pain from my acne. I remember thinking, “I am in my 30s... WHY is my acne worse than a teenager’s? WHY is this happening to me? This is unfair.”
It was then I made the decision to take Accutane — and while I don’t regret it, those 8 months I was on it were incredibly difficult. And the way Accutane impacted my anxiety and mental health has been a difficult hump to overcome.
But, it worked. For a while. Until I started to feel the heads of cystic zits forming again, and full-blown panicked…
Some take Accutane and are pimple free for life. Others relapse and are encouraged to take Accutane again. Personally, going back on Accutane was just not worth it. So, I started to explore other options.
I had already tried dozens of different brands pre-Accutane. Nothing really worked. Everything was just a temporary band-aid.
Then a friend casually suggested Olive Tree People — specifically their Oliveda line. I remember thinking, “No way will this work for my skin. My skin is too sensitive and too difficult.”
I gave it a try anyway, and here we are over a year later, and my skin is happy. I am happy.
Now, is the skincare line I use the key to happiness? No. That took a lot of work and self-reflection.
But, Olive Tree People is a key player in my self-love and self-confidence development. I saw improvement in my skin and that was a small win I desperately needed.
Seeing improvement externally gave me the courage to look internally and evaluate my feelings towards myself, my skin and my self-talk.
I was always beautiful. Even with acne. And now, I cringe when I speak negatively about myself or my skin.
So, with that, I welcome you to the next step in my skincare journey — sharing + writing with the intention to help others. We are all worthy of feeling beautiful in our own skin.
Meet you here next Friday <3
Remember, consistency is key. But, grace is just as important. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be.
